Parents

Don’t forget to read the parents handbook!

Communication

It is very important that the staff of Montessori Discovery Center has excellent communication with parents. We want to keep you informed of all current events and schedules. To facilitate this, we use several methods:

  • White board located by entry way
  • Monthly newsletter
  • Notes in parent mailboxes
  • Messages on sign-in computer
  • This website

Please call the school if you have any questions.

Classroom Visitation

We have an open door policy at our school. Parents are welcome and encouraged to visit their childʼs class at any time. To facilitate visits, parents will be given the code for the combination lock on our arrival/departure door.

Parent Conferences

Conferences are held twice a year, in the fall and spring. This is the time to find out where your childʼs skill development is at, and ask any questions you may have. Whenever possible, we recommend that both parents attend.

Volunteer Hours

Parent volunteer hours are mandatory at Montessori Discovery Center. Volunteer time is calculated by points, and each family is required to accumulate 10 points during the school year. Two points are given for services such as washing towels, story time reader, bringing snack, going on a field trip, mowing the lawn, grounds keeping, and making materials for the classroom. If you are unable to volunteer at all, you may pay an annual fee of $250 in lieu of service hours.

Emergency School Closure

During the year, school may need to be closed due to weather conditions or other emergencies. In such cases, the safety and well being of all children is our primary concern. When an emergency closure is necessary, we will contact parents or emergency contact persons to come pick-up their children. When inclement weather conditions occur, the opening of school (in most cases) will follow the Salem-Keizer School Districtʼs decision on whether we have a school closure or delay. Check our website, www.montessoridiscoverycenter.com or call the school for a message.
